Doug Jacobs (Chief Transformation Officer in the Center for Medicare, at CMS) shares his valuable perspective on health equities in the USA, the challenges that people in the State of Pennsylvania were facing during the pandemic, the pros and cons of Telehealth from his personal experience, why he believes it’s important for doctors to get involved in policy-making decisions.
About Doug Jacobs, MD, MPH
Dr. Jacobs is the Chief Transformation Officer at the Center for Medicare within the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). He leads efforts towards value-based care, health equity, and delivery system transformation in Medicare, which covers 63 million Americans and spends over 20% of US healthcare dollars. He was the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Innovation Officer for Pennsylvania's Department of Human Services, overseeing the state's Medicaid program. Dr. Jacobs is a board-certified Internal Medicine Physician who continues to see patients during the pandemic. He was chosen by the governor to lead Whole-Person Health Reform and created Pennsylvania's first equity incentive program and a program to address social determinants of health. He helped lead the COVID-19 response, including a successful program pairing academic medical centers with long-term care facilities, and the phased roll-out of COVID-19 vaccinations. Dr. Jacobs has published in top medical journals and written for national news outlets. He graduated magna cum laude from Brown and with distinction from UCSF’s School of Medicine. He has worked in government health policy offices, including the National Academy of Medicine, and was selected as a Forbes 30 under 30 in Healthcare.
